Project ISINGLASS
Mach 22 is the extremely high speed referenced in the CIA's ISINGLASS proposal (see also Project Rheinberry).
The CIA was interested in developing a replacement for the Lockheed SR-71.
They envisioned a crewed, Mach 20+ rocket-powered glider, air-launched from a B-52 bomber based in Spain.
The aircraft would boost itself to an altitude of 200,000 feet and fly reconnaissance over the Soviet Union.
Recovery would be made by descent glide and landing at Groom Lake (Area 51) in Nevada.
The idea was to provide quick-response, rapid turnaround compared with slower reconnaissance systems
that needed long prep and recovery times.

Project Isinglass was first proposed in 1964 and then cancelled in 1967!
